Mami Hasegawa
Pure silver accessories and small tools
2023.1.24 - 2.24
Open:12:00 - 18:00

Mami Hasegawa married into the Hasegawa Ichibōsai family, which began as sword guard (tsuba) artisans serving the Owari Tokugawa clan and has been engaged in metalworking for tea utensils since the Meiji era. From early on, she influenced the metalworking world with her modern sensibilities. Her pioneering work in the contemporary metalworking boom is underpinned by her dedication, quietly supporting Ichibōsai's classical craftsmanship.
Mami Hasegawa's creations extend beyond tea utensils. Using high-quality pure silver known as nanryō, as well as brass and copper, she crafts accessories and small tools that captivate us with their beautiful presence. She describes herself as "quick-handed," but the pieces she produces at a brisk pace are a testament to her years of skilled artistry. Contrary to her slender physique, her large, rugged hands reflect her history as a craftsperson. Having been acquainted with her for nearly 30 years, her work consistently exudes such meticulous craftsmanship and unblemished sophistication.
We are delighted to showcase her accessories and small tools at VAGUE KOBE. In conjunction with the new incense from TERUHIRO YANAGIHARA STUDIO's fragrance brand "LICHEN," several incense holders will also be introduced. We hope you can immerse yourself in this world within the space graced by beautiful natural light.
