Born 1969, Yokkaichi, Mie. Ceramic artist. Currently based in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, she mainly uses the hand-building technique. The hand-building technique involves piling up strings of clay and building up the clay with the sensation of the fingers, which takes longer than with an electric wheel. Uchida's vessels have a rough earthy taste, which is conveyed in many of her works, giving the impression of the warmth of the clay rather than its strength.
